If there’s any part of me that I value most, it’s definitely my hair. I’ve had long, thick hair since I started secondary school and my goodness, it is hard to maintain at times! But I do love to take care of it to keep it shiny and healthy.
So, here are 6 things I like to do to keep my hair looking and feeling good:
Use a decent shampoo & conditioner
I know we don’t all have money to blow on good shampoos and conditioners, but the benefits your hair and scalp can get from them can really make the difference! My personal favourites are OGx and TIGI Bed Head Ressurection! Good shampoos clean your hair properly and they don’t dry your scalp.
Brush your hair upside down
Brushing your hair upside down stimulates the scalp, meaning you’ll brush all the essential oils through to the ends of your hair more thoroughly. Using a good brush such as The Wet Brush or a Tangle Teezer will also prevent breakages!
Use a hair mask once a week
Hair masks are a good way to give your hair a bit of extra nourishment and moisture. Unlike a conditioner, hair masks work their way into the cuticle, giving your hair extra shine as well as helping prevent further damage.
Avoid using heat when possible
Of course, this is an obvious one! Using heat excessively causes hair to split and damage quicker. I personally wash my hair in the evenings, where I can leave it to dry naturally! If you have to straighten your hair, invest in a good pair that helps to protect your locks.
Sleep with your hair in a plait
Sleeping with your hair in a plait stops it rubbing on your pillow at night – which could cause more damage! If your hair isn’t long enough to plait, buy a silk pillow as the material isn’t so harsh on your hair.
Drink lots of water
This is another obvious one, but drinking water is not only good for your body and skin, but it also works wonders for your hair. It promotes hair growth, prevents thinning and it nourishes your scalp, preventing dryness and dandruff!
